Pre-Existing Condition Plan

The Pre-Existing Condition Plan is a federal program to help individuals who have been uninsured for at least the past six months and who have been previously diagnosed with a serious medical condition enroll in DirigoChoice.

As part of the Affordable Care Act, The Federal Government will pay for the claims of Individuals who meet these criteria if the claims exceed a certain amount. This allows DHA to cover more people.

Enrollees must be U.S. citizens, naturals, or lawfully present in the United States.

The medical conditions that qualify enrollees for the Pre-Existing Condition Plan are:

• Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS)
• Angina pectoris
• Cirrhosis of the liver
• Coronary occlusion
• Cystic fibrosis
• Friedreich's ataxia
• Hemophilia
• Hodgkin's disease
• Huntington's chorea
• Juvenile diabetes
• Leukemia
• Metastatic cancer
• Motor or sensory aphasia
• Multiple sclerosis
• Muscular dystrophy
• Myasthenia gravis
• Myotonia
• Heart disease requiring open-heart surgery
• Parkinson's disease
• Polycystic kidney disease
• Psychotic disorders
• Quadriplegia
• Stroke
• Syringomyelia
• Wilson's disease
• Diabetes
• Asthma
• Coronary Artery Disease
• Congestive Heart Failure
• Hypertension
